Family Dog Training Center respects your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect when you use familydogonline.com, sign up for classes or contact us, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.

Who we are

Family Dog Training Center (“we,” “us”) is a dog training school at 1509 Central Avenue South, Kent, Washington 98032. You can reach us at (253) 854-9663 or send us a message about anything in this policy.

Information we collect

Information you give us

  • Your account: your name, email address, phone numbers, mailing address and password, and anything else you add to your account, such as family members (name, relationship, phone, birthdate, and whether they’re an emergency contact).
  • Your dogs and other pets: name, breed, sex, date of birth, allergies, photos and similar details you choose to share.
  • Class registrations and orders: the classes, packages and private lessons you sign up for, what you paid and how. Card payments are made on Authorize.net’s secure page: your card number goes straight to Authorize.net and never reaches our website or our staff.
  • Questionnaires and forms: your answers to our private lesson and evaluation questionnaires (for example your dog’s behavior, daily routine and training goals), the contact form, and class wait lists.
  • Chat: what you type to Halo & Kona, the chat assistant on our site.
  • Messages: emails and text messages you send us, and your replies to our texts.

Information collected automatically

  • Technical information: like every website, our server receives your IP address and browser type when you visit. Our forms use a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address for a short time to block spam. Our web host may keep standard server logs for security.
  • Cookies and storage in your browser: see Cookies below.

We don’t knowingly collect sensitive information such as Social Security numbers, health information about you, or financial account numbers, and we ask that you don’t send it to us.

How we use your information

  • To run your account and enroll you and your dog in classes, private lessons, wait lists and events.
  • To take payments, issue receipts and refunds, and keep the records the law requires.
  • To match you with the right instructor and prepare for your lesson.
  • To send you confirmations, reminders, calendar invitations and important notices about your classes (for example a weather closure).
  • To answer your questions, by email, phone, text or chat.
  • To send our newsletter, only if you signed up for it.
  • To keep our site and our students safe, prevent spam and fraud, and comply with the law.

Our chat assistant and AI

Some features of our site use artificial intelligence (AI) from Anthropic, the company that makes Claude:

  • Halo & Kona, our chat assistant, sends what you type to Anthropic to write its answers. If you’re signed in, it also uses your classes and lessons so it can answer questions like “when is my next class?” We keep conversations for 90 days, then delete them.
  • Questionnaire follow-up questions: some questionnaires send selected answers about your dog to Anthropic so it can suggest a few follow-up questions. Your name and contact details are not sent.

Anthropic processes this information for us to provide these features. Under its terms for business customers, it doesn’t use it to train its AI models. The chat assistant can make mistakes: for anything important, such as a safety concern about your dog, please call or message the office. You never have to use the chat to get help from us.

Who we share it with

We never sell your personal information or share it for advertising. We share it only as described here:

  • Our staff and instructors, who need it to teach your classes and lessons.
  • Companies that provide services to us, only to do that work for us: our web host; Microsoft 365 (our email); Authorize.net (card payments); Twilio (text messages); Anthropic (the AI features above); Constant Contact (our newsletter, if you sign up); and DogBizPro (the calendar shown on some of our pages).
  • When the law requires it, for example to respond to a court order, or when we believe it’s needed to protect someone’s safety, including after a dog bite or other injury at our facility.
  • If our business changes hands, your information may be transferred to the new owner, who must follow this policy.

Text messages

We text you only if you say yes, for example by checking the box on your account or a form. We send class and lesson confirmations and reminders, usually 1 to 4 messages per class or lesson. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to stop texts at any time, or HELP for help. Saying yes to texts is never a condition of signing up or buying anything.

We don’t share your mobile phone number or your consent to receive texts with anyone for their marketing or promotional purposes. Texts are sent for us by Twilio. See our Text Message Terms.

Cookies

Cookies are small files your browser stores for a website. We use only cookies our site needs to work:

  • To keep you signed in to your account, and to keep your cart while you register.
  • To remember your answer to our cookie notice.
  • Our forms and questionnaires also save your answers in your own browser as you go, so you don’t lose them if you leave and come back. They stay on your device and are cleared when you send the form.

We don’t use advertising, analytics or tracking cookies. The DogBizPro calendar shown on some of our pages comes from DogBizPro, which may set its own cookies. Class videos from YouTube (shown in its privacy-enhanced mode) or Vimeo may also set cookies when you play them. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but you then won’t be able to sign in.

How long we keep it

  • Chat conversations: 90 days.
  • Your account, your dogs and your class history: while you’re a student with us, and afterward until you ask us to delete it, so you don’t have to start over when you come back.
  • Payment and order records: as long as tax and accounting laws require.
  • Questionnaires, messages and wait lists: as long as we need them to help you, then they can be deleted on request.

How we protect it

Our site uses encrypted (HTTPS) connections. Only staff who need your information can see it, and their accounts are password-protected. Card numbers are handled by Authorize.net, not by us. No system is perfectly secure, so if we ever learn of a breach that affects your personal information, we’ll notify you as Washington law requires.

Your choices and rights

  • See and update your information: sign in to your account at any time, or send us a message.
  • Get a copy or have it deleted: send us a message and we’ll respond within 30 days. We may need to confirm it’s you first, and we may keep records the law requires us to keep, such as payment records.
  • Stop texts: reply STOP. Stop the newsletter: use the unsubscribe link in any newsletter. You’ll still get messages about classes you’re signed up for.

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under your state’s privacy laws. Contact us and we’ll honor them as the law requires.

Children

Our website is for adults. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. When children take part in classes, a parent or guardian signs them up and gives us any information about them. If you believe a child has given us information, send us a message and we’ll delete it.

Our site links to other sites, such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Google Maps and Constant Contact. Their own privacy policies apply when you visit them.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as our services change. We’ll change the “Last updated” date at the top, and if we make important changes we’ll post a notice on our site or email students.
